Who Are We?
The Orthokeratology Society of Oceania’s vision is to be recognised and trusted as the leading authority on OrthoK in Oceania. We exist to expand the safe use of OrthoK in our region. We are additionally dedicated to helping reduce the impact of the global myopic epidemic.
The Orthokeratology Society of Oceania’s mission is to promote research, professional development and networking in the orthoK and myopia control field. We provide superior education to optometrists and orthokeratologists at both beginner and expert levels. We communicate with other health providers and the general public to increase awareness about the benefits of orthoK and the importance of myopia control.
Current Board of the OSO
Gavin Boneham (President) has 24 years of experience fitting orthoK and loves that orthoK can slow myopia progression and therefore potentially save someone from vision loss in the future. He enjoys the company of the people who fit orthoK as they are all enthusiastic, passionate people. In his spare time, he likes reading a wide range of subjects from sports to philosophy. Gavin consults at Boneham Optometrist Eyecare Plus, George St, Sydney.
Amanda Rungis (Vice President / Marketing Coordinator) has been fitting orthoK for 9 years. She is thrilled to provide patients with the freedom that comes from great vision without glasses or daytime contact lenses. Her goal is to increase the awareness of orthoK to the general public so that many more can experience orthoK and people don’t look at her weirdly when she says she is an orthokeratologist. To her knowledge she is one of only 5 Latvian speaking orthokeratologists in the world. Amanda consults at Sure Eye Care, West Gosford, NSW.
Celia Bloxsom (Secretary / Conference Manager) has been fitting orthoK for 17 years and receives great delight from people's happy reactions at being able to see without glasses! In addition, as she gets to know her OK patients personally during the fitting process, she finds experiencing how orthoK has helped their lives a fantastic personal reward. She embraces "geek chic" - loving Star Wars and Chanel in equal measures! Celia consults at Eyeconic Optometry, Gold Coast, QLD.
Lee Pepper (Treasurer / Membership Administrator) has been fitting orthoK for 8 years and gains satisfaction from being able to do something to prevent disease (myopia). He volunteers his time for the OSO because he believes it is the most passionate professional society he has ever encountered. He is playing football for UNSW for the first time this year, 31 years after graduating from that university. Lee consults at Vision Excellence, Castle Hill, NSW.
Kathleen Watt (Education) has been fitting orthoK for 10 years. She enjoys getting to know the children and watching them grow. She is passionate about promoting orthoK and ensuring we have experienced, well-educated practitioners working in the field. Kathleen consults and teaches at UNSW Optometry Clinic, UNSW Sydney.
Jagrut Lallu (Liaison for NZ) has been fitting orthoK for 9 years. He delights in helping patients of all ages with a procedure that is described as “magic” by many patients and gains great satisfaction from seeing people happy. His goal is to help progress our profession and help our colleagues be as passionate about orthoK as the OSO board members are. He would rather be positive and happy than sad or negative. Jagrut consults at Visique Rose Optometrists, Frankton, New Zealand.
Oliver Woo (Liaison for Asia) has 20 years of experience fitting orthoK. He is passionate about improving his patients’ lifestyles. He relishes that successful results in Myopic Control reduce the risk retinal and other eye problems. He loves speaking (especially about orthoK) but not necessarily talking! He loves investing in new “toys” for OrthoK so as the better serve his patients. Oliver consults at the Orthokeratology and Myopic Control Clinic, Eastwood, NSW.
